JotDownload for Mac

Dictation

Click where you want the words, then press and hold 🌐 and talk. When you let go, Jot types what you said. It works in any app you can type in.

The pill with green bars, and under it the hint Let go to paste

While you hold the key, a small pill at the bottom of the screen shows your voice as green bars. For your first few dictations, a hint under the pill reminds you to let go to paste.

Before your first dictation

During setup, you give Jot access to the microphone and to Accessibility, which lets Jot detect 🌐 and type for you. Jot also downloads its speech model, once.

macOS uses 🌐 too. In System Settings > Keyboard, set Press 🌐 key to to Do Nothing, or each press opens the emoji picker. Setup includes a step for this.

Tips

  • A quick press with a word or two works too. A press with nothing said does nothing.
  • You can dictate during a meeting. Jot types the words where you are, and the meeting notes that you dictated them.
  • Jot reads the text near your cursor and in the same window, so names already on the screen are spelled correctly. It skips password fields and password managers, and you can turn it off in Settings.
  • If Jot misspells a name, add it to Your words.
  • Jot keeps every dictation in the Library, so you can copy it again later.
